Happy Valentine's Day beautiful souls!
This week was pretty busy and I didn't get much to overthink about my problems and since it's the day of celebrating love today, I thought of sharing a refreshing incident with you all.
I was recently asked to write a short note on my Covid warrior for a newsletter. When I said that I am my own Covid warrior, I was questioned, "But if there's someone who has been that figure in your life?"
"I don't think there's anybody else. The way I have dealt with things throughout the year, I have been my biggest and my only warrior," I replied.
And when my argument finally was considered worthy enough after what seemed like an endless wait, I sent this:
I am my COVID warrior. From telling myself in March (last year) that the virus will not go away so soon to realising in September that it is here to stay to contracting and surviving COVID in December, I have grown up a lot.
It would be wrong to say that the journey was linear. There were lots of ups and downs. I made conscious efforts to pause and breathe. Reading, writing, journaling, art and blogging are some of the activities that kept me going. I'm proud of myself for not giving up even when I felt at rock bottom.
I've come to a point to understand that the virus is here to heal not just the environment but also all of us.
Why am I sharing this story with you?
The answer is this - We often forget to think of ourselves when we name the people we love.
This is something I heard last year in an Instagram live session and it has stuck with me since then.
When I started maintaining a gratitude journal (and this reminds me I've not made a gratitude entry for quite a while), I made it a point that I put my name on the top of the list and be grateful to myself.
Doing this simple thing made me realise that taking out a moment to respect yourself for who you are is very important. You should value yourself. You should be your favourite.
But remember that you don’t have to be perfect to be your favourite. You have to accept all of yourself - with all your strengths and all your flaws too.
Now, I have a little task for you: Gift yourself something today. Flowers, chocolates, books, pizza or some clothes - it can be anything.
And don’t do this task just for one day. Do it every once in a while.
I love treating myself to chocolates, ice creams and books. And just to let you know, I've been buying birthday gifts for myself for two years now. Trust me, it feels awesome!
What is it that you're planning to buy for yourself?
Have you ever bought yourself a gift this in the past? How does it feel?
Feel free to share your thoughts... I'm listening...
Yours
